Influence of lower extremity angle of instep kick for accuracy in soccer

Abstract:

Soccer players are using instep kick in many variations during game as per situation demand such as when player pass the ball to team mate when his teammate is nearest to him and also for passing to long distances or at the time of penalty shoot towards the goal. The study sample comprised five north zone soccer players. The average age of the participants was 18-25years. All participants were members of the North Zone football team from Aligarh Muslim University. Each participant executed ten trials with a stationary ball positioned 12 yards (10.973 meters) from the target area. The target area was square-shaped, measuring 1 foot on each side, and was located at the center of the goalposts. Each kick was captured using a single video camera (Canon Legria HF S10), which was positioned 22 meters from the ball's location to the target box to evaluate successful and unsuccessful instep kicks. Silicon Coach Pro8 (demo version) and SPSS were utilized for data analysis. A paired t-test was employed to determine the differences in selected segmental angles Ankle angle (AA), Knee angle (KA) and Hip angle (HA) during the three phases namely stance phase, ball contact phase and follow through of the instep kick. And The result of the study have found that angles of the lower extremity i.e. Ankle angle, Knee angle and Hip angle during instep kick in three phases of kicking soccer ball for success and unsuccessful attempts were not significant.
