Effect of Surya Namaskar on physical and mental well-being

Abstract:

The Surya Namaskar, also known as Sun Salutation, is an age-old yoga technique. The present study explores the effect of Surya Namaskar on physical and mental well-being. Surya Namaskar, a traditional yogic practice consisting of twelve dynamic postures performed with synchronized breathing, is known to promote harmony between body and mind. This study highlights how the systematic practice of Surya Namaskar enhances flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, weight management, and cardiovascular endurance efficiency, while simultaneously improving mental focus, stress and Anxiety management, and psychological well-being. Findings from previous research suggest that Surya Namaskar serves as a complete exercise regimen that stimulates all major muscle groups, regulates respiration, and calms the nervous system. It encourages mindfulness and self-awareness, leading to overall improvement in physical health and psychological wellness. These results result Surya Namaskar represents a holistic approach to health, offering physical strength and mental piece through an integrated practice of movement, breath, and concentration. Regular performance of Surya Namaskar can significantly contribute to maintaining fitness, reducing stress, and promoting a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
